Let's Talk Tools Camp

For Girls

Girls, do you feel overwhelmed and intimidated when walking into a robotics shop? There are so many tools! There are so many names! There are so many sizes! Don’t be afraid. Help is here to get you an in-depth introduction of the world of general tool and hardware use. We want to equip you aspiring young women with a set of skills that apply in the shop and build confidence to help you get more involved building the robot!

Join mentors from #4980 Canine Crusaders,  #4125 Confidential, and local women in industry in a two-day camp located in beautiful Kettle Falls, WA to learn about the many kinds of tools and hardware one would encounter in a typical FRC build season. During your time here, build a massive spiral bound notebook filled with information about everything we learn and construct a small project out of aluminum using your new knowledge.

Questions we will answer!
  • What tool is that and when should I use it?

  • What is the difference between a 10-32, M8, and ¼-20 bolt?

  • How do I read a technical document and use it to put something together?

  • What size drill bit should I use?

  • How do I safely use a hand power tool?

  • Why would I use a hand drill vs a drill press vs a milling machine?

  • What does it mean to tap something?

  • When would you solder wires together and how?

  • What are the typical electronic tools?

  • What metal parts on a robot should get filed and how?
